Sterling is an innovative, research-based British pharmaceutical manufacturing company with R & D and manufacturing sites that are located in Moseley, Birmingham.

The company is accredited by the Executive Agency of the UK Department of Health, the MHRA, for
manufacturing and distribution purposes.

We take a lot of pride in being an accredited supplier of the National Health Service (NHS) community and hospital pharmacies in the UK over the past 10 years.

Our History

The company which started with 2 people focusing mainly on “specials” in the UK market has now grown to a workforce of over 40 professionals producing high quality pharmaceuticals for customers worldwide.

  • June 2007

    Sterling Pharmaceuticals Ltd was founded in June 2007

  • November 2008

    Commenced its operations in November 2008 from its high specification manufacturing facility in Moseley, Birmingham,

  • March 2010

    We commenced large batch contract manufacturing of oral liquids up to 1,000L per batch for both the UK and export markets.

  • February 2014

    We acquired high tech capsuling machines and started manufacturing hard shell capsules on a large-scale basis.

  • March 2016

    Sterling Pharma acquired a plot of land from Birmingham City Council with a view to build a new manufacturing facility

  • July 2017

    Further investments were made to expand the manufacturing capabilities of Sterling Pharma and the company is currently able to engage in large batch contract manufacturing of oral liquids up to 5,000L per batch for both the UK and export markets.

  • November 2017

    A separate commercial department was formed to re-brand the company and internationalise its sales and marketing activities with special interest in the Middle East, Asian and African markets.

  • February 2018

    The research and development arm was set up in a newly acquired unit with state of the art testing and product development equipment.

Pharmaceutical Quality Accreditation


At Sterling Pharma, all of our products are manufactured and tested to EU GMP guidelines according to Commission Directive 2003/94/EC as amended.

We also ensure that all of our products are manufactured with ingredients which are compliant with CPMP (EMA/410/01) guidelines relating to minimising the risk from Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies via medicinal products.

Our standard operating procedures which are comprehensively documented, constitute part of our instruction guides, performance standards, references and part of our training tools.

Our commitment to quality and regulatory compliance is at the core of every aspect of our operations as we consider Good Manufacturing Practice not just as a regulatory requirement but as our lifestyle on a daily basis.
